With fall just around the corner, September brings plenty of opportunities to get out and about in Kyle. From storytimes to gaming, gardening, community events and more, Kyle Parks and Recreation and the Kyle Public Library have a full calendar of programs planned throughout the month.
Parks and Recreation Events
September Social Squad — September 8
The Social Squad offers participants an evening of themed activities focused on social interaction, recreation, and community connection. Participants ages 15 and older will enjoy an adaptive cycling experience with the Ghissallo Cycling Initiative, featuring both traditional and recumbent bicycle options to accommodate a variety of abilities and comfort levels.

9/11 Observance Ceremony — September 11
Join the City of Kyle for our annual 9/11 Observance Ceremony as we gather at Heroes Memorial Park to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and reflect on the resilience, unity, and strength that emerged in the years that followed.
This meaningful ceremony will feature patriotic music, guest speakers, a 9/11 timeline remembrance, a wreath-laying ceremony, ceremonial volleys, the playing of Taps during the lowering of the flag, and moments of reflection as we pay tribute to those we lost and those who continue to serve.
The City of Kyle is proud to host this event in partnership with AMVETS Post 115, VFW Post #12058, the Ladies Auxiliary Post 115, Kyle Police Department and the Kyle Fire Department.
Storytime at the Park — September 19
Bring the whole family to Storytime at La Verde Park on Saturday, September 19, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.!
Hosted by the City of Kyle Parks and Recreation Department in partnership with the Kyle Public Library, this outdoor Storytime at the La Verde Park Pavilion, 3901 Burnham, is designed for children ages 3 to 7. Families can enjoy engaging picture books, including a Spanish or bilingual Spanish/English reading, followed by a fun craft activity.
Participants are welcome to bring chairs or blankets, along with food and beverages, and settle in for a morning of stories, creativity and family fun.
Steeplechase Trail Clean-Up — September 24
Looking for a way to give back to nature? Join the Hays County Master Naturalists for a monthly trail clean-up at Steeplechase Park! We meet on the fourth Thursday of every month (Except for November and December) from 8 to 10 a.m. at the parking lot by the basketball courts.
We’ll be working to remove invasive, aggressive plants to help our native species thrive. It’s a great opportunity to learn plant identification and removal techniques you can use in your own yard, all while making a real difference in the community! Please bring your own tools, gloves, boots, and eye protection, as only a small amount of tools will be provided.
Conservation Connections — September 24
Conservation Connections is a free, once-a-month community presentation focused on local ecology, practical ways to help protect our environment, and tips for becoming a better environmental steward in the City of Kyle.
Conservation Connections this month focuses on ecosystem services, the everyday benefits nature provides, like cleaner air and water, flood protection, pollination, soil health, and cooler neighborhoods, and how protecting native habitats in Kyle helps sustain those benefits for our community.
RecZone Youth: ESports Smash Bros Tournament — September 25
Show your competitive side in this month’s RecZone!
Join Kyle Parks and Recreation’s for a Youth Smash Bros. Tournament on Friday, September 25 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. at 208 Republic Dr., Suite C. Youth entering 5th through 9th grade are invited to battle their way through the bracket, show off their skills in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and compete for prizes and the championship title.

Kyle Public Library Events
Programs are back at the Kyle Public Library with a mix of new offerings, returning favorites and the classic programs residents know and love.
This month, families can check out new programs like Bilingual Toddler Storytime, while favorites such as Pokémon Club and Wiggleworms Storytime return to the schedule. From storytimes and activities for young children to opportunities for teens and adults to create and connect, there’s something for everyone at the library this month.
Storytimes
Baby Time — Mondays and Wednesdays
Baby Time is designed for babies that are not yet walking confidently and their caregivers. Learn together through a shared story, songs, action rhymes, and play.
Wiggleworms Storytime — Mondays and 3rd Fridays
Wiggleworms encourages learning and early literacy through music, movement, and play. This program is best suited for little ones who are crawling and walking.
Toddler Storytime — Tuesdays
Let’s sing, talk, read, and play together! Toddler Storytime is designed for two- and three-year-olds. Toddlers and their caregivers are invited to participate in interactive stories, songs, rhymes, and play.
Preschool Storytime — Tuesdays
Preschool storytime offers children ages 3-5 opportunities to learn through reading, playing, talking, singing, and writing. Preschoolers will enjoy interactive stories, songs, and activities that encourage emerging language skills.
¡Hora del cuento bilingüe para niños pequeños! Bilingual Toddler Storytime — Wednesdays
Bilingual storytime is presented in English and Spanish. It is a dual language program, so some material is presented in English and other material is presented in Spanish
Toddlers and their caregivers are invited to enjoy interactive stories, songs, and rhymes in both languages. The storytime session ends with a short period of time for caregivers to chat and network and for toddlers to play together. This program is designed for children 3 years and under.
¡Hora del cuento Bilingüe! Bilingual Storytime — Thursdays
Bilingual storytime is presented in English and Spanish. It is a dual language program, so some material is presented in English and other material is presented in Spanish.
Bilingual storytime invites children to enjoy stories, songs, and rhymes in both languages in an interactive environment. This storytime is for children aged 3-5 and their caregivers.

¡Fiesta de las Flores! Hispanic Heritage Celebration — September 12
Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with Kyle Public Library at Fiesta de las Flores! Enjoy mariachi music as we honor the rich cultures and traditions of Hispanic communities. This free event is open to everyone, and we invite you to celebrate with us.
Type Like a Pirate Type-In with Austin Typewriter, Ink — September 19
Step away from the screen and set sail for an unplugged adventure with Austin Typewriter, Ink. Clack the keys of vintage typewriters as you write pirate tales, secret messages, poems, or letters in the old-fashioned way. Whether you’re a seasoned writer or a first-time typist, this pirate themed type-in is a hands-on adventure for all ages.
Children’s Programs
Let’s Play: Pokémon Club — September 10
We are official! Join the ALA Connect Pokémon Library Club at the Kyle Public Library and dive into the world of Pokémon. The American Association of School Librarians (AASL) and the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) have partnered with The Pokémon Company International to bring Pokémon Clubs to your library!
Pokémon Club attendees can learn to play the game, enjoy fun activities, and make new friends through the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG).
LEGO Lab — September 17
Let your imagination run wild and explore your engineering skills as you create and build with LEGO blocks provided by the library. Challenges will be provided to test your creativity. LEGO creations will stay in the library on display until the next event.

Tween Scene — September 24
Tweens are invited to the library to try out the Makerspace, explore STEAM challenges, and craft together.
Discovery Time — September 26
Children are invited to explore sensory bins filled with safe, tactile materials designed for little hands. They can scoop, pour, sort, and discover while building fine-motor and early learning skills in a relaxed, drop-in setting that encourages curiosity and open-ended play. Dress for mess and hands-on fun.
Teen Programs
Homeschool Teen Connections — September 8
Homeschool teens and their parents or guardians are invited to a special Q&A session to kick off our new monthly Homeschool Teen Connections program! Meet library staff, learn about the program, explore the Makerspace, discover what the library has to offer teens, and share your ideas to help shape future gatherings.
Teen Time Makerspace — September 10
Grab your “Bestie” and your “Fam” to explore the Makerspace where you will have access to a variety of hands-on activities. Collaborate with friends and engineer something cool in an environment designed to spark curiosity and innovation.
Community CPR Class — September 17
Ally Medical Emergency Room will be here to teach CPR for ages 13 and up. Learn life-saving skills in this free hands-on class. This is the ideal opportunity for parents, grandparents, babysitters, and anyone in the community. Earn a two-year American Heart Association certification and be prepared to act in an emergency! Attendees must demonstrate proper compressions for certification.

Growing Carrots, Tomatoes, and other Fall Favorites — September 5
Not sure what can still be grown in the fall? Master Gardner Jennifer Boley will share what edibles & pretty things you can include in your garden and how to care for them for a fall harvest.
Magic the Gathering: Commander Play — September 5
Looking for a fun, casual way to play Magic: The Gathering? Join fellow players for Commander play featuring 100-card decks, casual games and plenty of fun. Whether you’re new to Commander or a seasoned player, all are welcome to play!
Community Yoga Class — September 15
This Hatha style class is appropriate for all experience levels. The class is based on mindful movement and will leave you feeling refreshed and relaxed.
Page Turners Book Club — September 25
Join the Page Turners Book Club for our September read: Whistler by Ann Patchett, a story about two adults looking back over the choices they made, and the choices that were made for them. It’s a story about bravery, memory, and the often small yet consequential moments that define our lives.
