What Kyle Read, Watched, and Checked Out in 2025

Looking to crack open a new book, check out (get it 😉) what Kyle was reading In 2025.
A woman with long dark hair browses books on shelves inside a library or bookmobile, holding one book in her hands and reaching for another on the top shelf.

Kyle residents showed up for the library in 2025, checking out more materials, attending more programs, and saving millions of dollars along the way.

Over the year, community members visited the Kyle Public Library 79,122 times, a 6.7 percent increase from 2024. More than 214,000 items were checked out, and 3,011 new members signed up for a library card. By checking out library materials rather than purchasing books or subscriptions, residents saved a total of $2,580,977.44.

Adult fiction readers gravitated toward emotional stories, thrillers, and fantasy. Kristin Hannah’s The Women came out on top for the second year in a row, while Freida McFadden and Rebecca Yarros each claimed multiple spots, reflecting continued interest in fast-paced suspense and fantasy romance.

In adult nonfiction, readers showed a mixed interest in learning, personal growth, and local history. Titles like Atomic Habits by James Clear and The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey remained popular amongst readers. Local history also stood out, with The Prairie City: A History of Kyle, Texas, 1880–1980 ranking among the most checked-out nonfiction titles.

DVDs continued to be a popular option for entertainment, with recent releases and familiar favorites seeing heavy circulation. Films such as Wicked, Gladiator II, Twisters, and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse were among the most borrowed, highlighting the library’s role as an accessible alternative to streaming subscriptions.

Young adult readers showed a strong preference for fantasy series and dystopian classics. Multiple titles from Sarah J. Maas’ Throne of Glass series dominated the list, along with Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games and Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight. Graphic novels were also a major draw for teens, with Alice Oseman’s Heartstopper series appearing repeatedly.

For younger readers, humor and graphic storytelling continued to prevail. Dav Pilkey’s Dog Man, Captain Underpants, and Cat Kid Comic Club titles made up most of the top juvenile graphic novels, while Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Dork Diaries books remained classic staples in juvenile fiction.

Family-friendly DVDs were also popular, with titles like Inside Out 2, The Wild Robot, Bluey: Season 2, and Moana 2 among the most checked out.

Beyond borrowing materials, residents took part in 455 library programs in 2025, drawing 15,156 total attendees. These numbers help guide future decisions, from which materials to purchase to what types of programs to offer, ensuring the library continues to meet the evolving needs of the Kyle community.

As usage continues to grow, the data from 2025 makes one thing clear. The Kyle Public Library remains an important community resource, connecting residents of all ages with stories, information, and opportunities to learn.
