Curious how much the city is investing in parks this year? Or how public safety funding is keeping pace as Kyle continues to grow? Want to know what microsurfacing a neighborhood costs? As of Thursday, October 30, the answers to those questions and more are right at your fingertips with the launch of the City’s new digital budget book.
“The launch of our new Digital Budget Book for FY 2025-26 marks an exciting step forward in financial transparency for the City of Kyle,” said Holly Holt-Torres, Assistant Director of Finance. “For the first time, residents and city leadership can explore the city’s annual budget in an interactive, easy-to-navigate format that connects revenues, expenditures, and city priorities in one place. This tool reflects our city’s commitment to open government and helps ensure that every dollar is clearly accounted for and accessible to the community we serve.”
Developed by the City’s Finance Department and powered by the OpenGov platform, the digital budget book supplements the dense, printed documents of the past with a dynamic experience that lets users navigate the city’s spending and priorities with a few simple clicks. Residents can browse by department, program, or initiative to see how funds are being invested in roads, utilities, parks, and other priorities that shape everyday life in Kyle.
The FY 2025-26 budget totals about $603.9 million, reflecting a balanced approach to maintaining essential services while funding long-term projects that keep pace with Kyle’s growth. Roughly $460 million of that total supports capital improvement projects such as road expansions, utility upgrades, and park and public-safety facility enhancements, part of a five-year Capital Improvement Program exceeding $1.3 billion in infrastructure improvements.
To continue delivering high-quality service to the community, the city is adding 24 new full-time positions, bringing the workforce to roughly 470 employees. The budget also includes rate adjustments for water and wastewater services to ensure that critical infrastructure remains reliable for years to come. These initiatives align with the City Council’s strategic priorities of accountable government, sustainable infrastructure, safe and welcoming neighborhoods, vibrant destinations, and a thriving economy.
The launch of the digital budget book builds on other recent milestones, including the City’s redesigned website and Open Data & Transparency Portal, both designed to make public information easier to find and understand.
Residents can explore the new budget tool on the city’s website CityofKyle.gov or via the open data portal.
“The new Online Budget Book is just the beginning of a more transparent and accessible budgeting process,” added Holt-Torres. “As the platform continues to evolve, we’ll expand its features, data, and visuals to provide deeper insight into how resources are allocated and results are achieved. This ongoing evolution reflects our commitment to continuous improvement and to keeping the community informed every step of the way.”
As Kyle continues to grow, the Finance Department sees this new tool as a transformative step in advancing transparency, making city financial information open, accessible, and easy to explore for everyone who calls Kyle home.
