Earlier this year, we asked what type of restaurant you would like to see next to Heroes Memorial Park … and boy did you answer! Nearly 1,500 people took part in the Heroes Memorial Park restaurant survey, a level of community participation we don’t typically see. That kind of response makes one thing clear: Kyle really cares about what happens here.
That’s why we wanted to share the results—to keep you in the loop on a project you’re clearly passionate about and to show how your feedback is already helping shape the conversation.
For those just catching up, the site is a city-owned pad near FM 1626 and Kohlers Crossing, beside the Sprouts parking lot and adjacent to Heroes Memorial Park. It is not part of the current park footprint, and no restaurant operator has been selected.
On March 24, after the survey officially closed, and results were analyzed, City Council revisited the project when staff and Common Ground, the project consultant, shared an update on design progress and community engagement. Much of that discussion centered on fit, including lighting, landscaping, buffering, grade separation, and how to make sure the site feels compatible with the park next door.

The community survey drew 1,492 responses, with more than 85 percent coming from Kyle residents or people in the ETJ. Overall, the responses leaned toward a quality sit-down restaurant, something approachable, comfortable, and well designed. Residents also showed strong interest in outdoor seating, indoor-outdoor flow, and seating that feels more personal and conversational.
A separate group of responses from military-affiliated residents, first responders, law enforcement, and immediate family members generally followed that same pattern, while placing added importance on a setting that feels respectful and in step with the memorial park nearby.
Written comments added a little more texture. Many people said they would like to see a local, non-chain restaurant with quality food, shaded outdoor seating, and a design that feels connected to the area. Some also emphasized the importance of keeping the setting calm and compatible with the park.
Taken together, the feedback does not point to one exact restaurant concept. What it does show is that residents are paying close attention to the kind of place this becomes, with the strongest preference leaning toward something thoughtful, local, and fitting for the area.
The next phase will focus on identifying potential restaurant partners that align with the site, the design direction, and the feedback shared so far.
