The City of Kyle Parks and Recreation Department invites residents of all ages to celebrate the grand opening of the newly renovated Steeplechase Park Playground with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, August 29, at 6:30 p.m. at 295 Hallie Drive.
Join us for brief remarks from city staff, free BBQ sandwiches (provided by Forever Lawn) and La Ola popsicles (while supplies last), music, and fun activities for children including a bubble and chalk art zone. Thank you to our sponsor for this event, Texas Children’s Pediatrics.
In February 2025, the City recognized the need to update the aging playground at Steeplechase Park and partnered with Whirlix Design Inc. to develop three inclusive playground design concepts. A survey was launched and ran from February 10-28 to gather feedback on which concepts the community liked best, receiving over 500 responses from engaged residents. The Modern Concept received the highest support, garnering over 40% of the votes, and became the blueprint for the new playground.

The redesigned Steeplechase playground was built with accessibility and inclusivity at its core. Key features include:
- Inclusive play elements designed to support sensory, cognitive, and physical development.
- ADA-compliant upgrades such as ramps, accessible sidewalks, surfacing, and additional seating.
- Shaded areas to keep families comfortable during warm Texas days.
- Modern surfacing and expanded play zones, providing safe and engaging spaces for children of all abilities.
Steeplechase Park isn’t the only park getting an update in Kyle. Waterleaf Park is also preparing for the installation of its new Nature-Themed playground, which will be an expansion to current facilities and feature inclusive elements to ensure accessibility for all children.

In preparation of the Waterleaf Park project, security fencing will be installed the week of August 25, with demolition scheduled to begin the week of September 1.
Additionally, both Steeplechase Park and Waterleaf Park will receive new parking lots, further enhancing convenience and accessibility for residents.
“These projects are about more than new equipment,” said David Lopez, Parks and Recreation Director for the City of Kyle. “They are about creating spaces where every child, regardless of ability, can play, learn, and connect with others. Our goal is to make Kyle’s parks welcoming, inclusive, and enjoyable for generations to come.”
These upgrades reflect the city’s commitment to community-driven planning and long-term investment in quality of life. By incorporating public feedback and prioritizing accessibility, the Parks and Recreation Department is ensuring that Kyle’s parks continue to serve residents for years to come.
