Emergency Preparedness

Prepare, Learn, and Play at the 8th Annual Hays County Preparedness Fair

La Verde Park will be buzzing with safety, fun, first responders, and community spirit on Saturday, September 13 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the 8th Annual Hays County Emergency Preparedness Fair.

Every September, communities across the country take a moment to focus on an important topic that touches us all – emergency preparedness. From unexpected weather to sudden power outages, life can throw curveballs when we least expect it.

September is recognized as National Emergency Preparedness Month, and here in Hays County efforts are underway to bring awareness and education to the community.

Including the 8th annual Hays County Emergency Preparedness Fair on Saturday, September 13 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. at La Verde Park.

“Preparedness isn’t about predicting the future—it’s about making sure our families and neighbors are ready for anything,” said Kyle Emergency Management Coordinator Jimmy Johnson. “The Hays County Emergency Preparedness Fair turns that serious mission into a day of learning, connection, and community spirit.”

This FREE, family-friendly event brings together first responders, community organizations, and emergency preparedness experts for a day of demonstrations, activities and hands-on learning. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with the real-life heroes who keep us safe – firefighters, police officers, EMS crews, and more while exploring their trucks, cars and gear up close.

But the fair is more than just flashing lights and big equipment, it’s about making sure that families are ready and prepared in case of emergency. Throughout the day experts will be on hand to guide you through how to make a family emergency plan, build an emergency kit, and how to stay informed during disasters.

For the kids (and kids at heart), there’s touch-a-truck, a kid zone with inflatable games, face painting, balloon making, and train rides. Attendees can also look forward to free live music from local High School bands in the morning followed by Two Tons of Steel and the Cody Sparks Band in the afternoon, food and drink vendors, the Top Dawg Chili Cook-Off, a silent auction, raffle, and more!

Whether you come for the fun, food, or peace of mine, the goal is for participants to leave better equipped to protect their loved ones when it matters most.
