The City of Kyle Planning Department has once again been recognized for its leadership in community development and smart growth. For the second consecutive year, Kyle received the Richard R. Lillie, FAICP Planning Excellence Award from the Texas Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA Texas, an honor awarded to only 49 municipalities across the state in 2025.
The award recognizes cities that demonstrate a strong commitment to professional planning, high standards in community development, and forward-thinking growth strategies. Evaluation criteria included:
- Ongoing training and professional development for Planning Commissioners and staff
- Qualifications and expertise of the City’s planning staff
- A current Comprehensive Plan and supporting master plan components
- Completion of planning-related projects that serve the community
Kyle’s achievement reflects the dedication of its planning staff consisting of 4 employees, Planning & Zoning Commission members, and the collaboration of multiple City departments that work together to guide responsible, balanced growth.

The Planning Excellence Program was created to raise awareness of the importance of planning, celebrate high standards, encourage ongoing training, and support sustainable economic development.
This recognition underscores Kyle’s commitment to thoughtful planning—not just for today, but for the city’s long-term future.
