It’s the most wonderful time of the year! This December there’s so much for you and the family to do in Kyle, From the annual downtown tree lighting and Santa’s Arrival, to a celebration of all things Grinch, holiday crafts at the Kyle Public Library and plenty of chances to get outdoors.
Parks and Recreation Events
Bring your family and friends for the official kick-off to the Holidays – Santa’s Arrival! Join us in welcoming Santa to Kyle on Monday, Dec. 1 from 4-9 p.m. at Mary Kyle Hartson Park, 101 S. Burleson St.
Enjoy holiday music performed by local school choirs, photos with Santa, face painting, free kids activities, and get a head start on Christmas shopping with our festive food and holiday market vendors.
Winter Wonderland for All Abilities Dance – Dec. 5
Step into a winter wonderland at our holiday-themed All Abilities Dance on Friday, December 4 from 5:30 – 8 p.m. at the Gemstone Palace. Here the season comes alive in a festive atmosphere filled with music, dancing, and community. Join us for an unforgettable evening where everyone is welcome, and create lasting memories together!

Santa Rides through Kyle – Dec. 9 – Dec. 11
Wave hello to Santa and his helpers as Santa Rides and his helpers (*Grinch included) through Kyle. It all starts on Tuesday, December 9 in Northeast Kyle, hitting Southeast Kyle on Wednesday, Dec. 10, and finishing up in West Kyle on Thursday, Dec. 11.
Santa is very busy during the holiday season and will do his best to hit as many neighborhoods as possible but will not be able to go down every street, so we ask residents to choose one of the *Designated Santa Viewing Areas starred on each map to wave and say hello! Christmas Movie in the Park – Dec. 12
Celebrate the magic of the holiday season with a showing of The Santa Clause (PG) at Movies in the Park on Friday, December 12 from 6 – 9:30 p.m. at Mary Kyle Hartson Park. Don’t forget your lawn chairs, and maybe a blanket or two.
The mastermind of Christmas crime is making his return to Kyle and wants you — yes YOU — to join him for Grinch on the Green, a celebration of all things mean and green, on Saturday, December 13 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at La Verde Park, 3901 Burnham.
This GRINCHY celebration is a free family-friendly event with something fun for everyone. Enjoy sweet treats, market vendors, live music, photos with the one and only Grinch (bring a non-perishable food donation to get a photo), free activities for children, Grinch movie screenings, and more!
Throughout December, we will have nightly holiday lights, Christmas music (including live music), and local vendors at Mary Kyle Hartson Park, as part of the 25 Days of Christmas. For more information on specific activities, see below.

- Shopping Saturdays: Check out food, drink, and market vendors and enjoy live music during our holiday night market on Saturday, Dec. 6 and 20 from 5:30 – 9 p.m. Performers will play from 6-9 p.m.

- Social Sundays: The City of Kyle Parks and Recreation Department is celebrating Social Sundays on Dec. 7, 14, and 21from 5:30 – 9 p.m. To take part, stop by the park, enjoy a lawn game or two, take pictures of you and your loved ones and share it with the hashtag #KyleParksandRecreation.
Kyle Public Library Events
Teen Study Hall – Dec. 2 and 6: Need a quiet place to focus? Join us for Teen Study Hall on Tuesday, Dec. 2 from 5-7:30 p.m. or on Saturday, Dec. 6 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., and enjoy a dedicated space just for teens (ages 13–17) to work on homework, study for exams, or catch up on assignments. Bring your notes and school supplies, and we’ll provide a calm, comfortable environment to help you stay on track and stress a little less.
Crafty Creations – Dec. 3 and 17: Get into the holiday spirit on Wednesday, Dec. 3 and 17 at 1 p.m. by making your very own festive garland at the library! Choose from a variety of materials to design a garland that’s merry, bright, and uniquely yours. All supplies are provided, just bring your creativity and enjoy a cozy afternoon of crafting.
Collage Appliqué – Dec. 4: Ditch the ordinary and learn to create something extraordinary on Thursday, Dec. 4 at 6:30 p.m. Take a moment to yourself during the busy holiday season to de-stress and get creative at a beginner’s appliqué class presented by Inspired Minds Art Center! All supplies are provided, and no experience is needed. This event is for adults aged 18 and up.
Teen Tuesdays: Craft Night – Dec. 9: Teens aged 13 to 17 are invited to the library on Tuesday, Dec. 9 at 5 p.m. to give old book pages a second life! Join us to create awesome book-page ornaments that are perfect for decorating your space or gifting to friends and family.
PJ Storytime – Dec. 10: Children ages 3 to 6 are invited to snuggle up in your comfiest holiday pajamas and join us on Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. for a festive evening storytime! We’ll dance, sing songs, and settle into some wonderful stories—perfect for winding down and getting those wiggles out just in time for bedtime.
Adult Craft Night – Dec. 11: Explore the art of Japanese washi tape. On Thursday, Dec. 11 at 6:30 p.m., adults ages 18 and up can unwind, socialize, and create chic, personalized decorations or holiday cards. Ditch the stress and leave with something beautiful!
Let it Snow! – Dec. 13: Experience the magic of snow—Texas style! Little learners ages 3 to 5 years are invited to explore “snow” through playful, hands-on activities that blend early literacy and science at the library on Saturday, Dec. 13 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Kids can build mini snowmen, create sparkling snowflake art, try a snowball toss, and experiment with different types of snow to see how it moves, molds, and melts. It’s a snowy adventure designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and winter wonder!
Whispers in the Wind Storytelling Night – Dec. 18: Gather ’round for an evening of cozy tales, festive folklore, and seasonal storytelling magic at the library on Thursday, Dec. 18 at 6:30 p.m. Whether you want to share an original story, retell a favorite holiday classic (with credit to the source), or simply listen and enjoy, all storytellers and story-lovers are welcome. Sign-up slots for storytellers will be available upon arrival for adults ages 18 and up.
Master Gardeners: Go Native – Dec. 20: Stop by the library on Saturday, Dec. 20 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. to learn about the many advantages of using native plants in your landscaping. Several plants native to our area will be highlighted as well as when to plant and how to prune them for the best results. Join us to discover a new hobby, just in time for the new year!
Conservation Division Events
The Kyle Parks and Recreation Department’s Conservation Division is staying busy this month. Catch up with them at one of their many December events.
Organic Gardening Class – Starting from Seeds Dec. 13: Learn the essentials of starting plants from seed in this hands-on class on Saturday, December 13 at the Community Garden at Post Oak from 10 – 11 a.m. Discover the equipment needed for indoor seed starting, understand common terms like heirloom, organic, and direct sow, and explore best practices for successful germination.
Trail Stewardship Program Leadership Day – Dec. 13: Be a part of Kyle’s Trail Stewardship Program! This new, city-sponsored initiative aims to build a network of trained volunteer leaders and community members committed to the maintenance and restoration of Kyle’s trail system. Join us Saturday, December 13 at Waterleaf Park from 8 – 11 a.m. and take part in trail clean-up, minor repairs, and conservation efforts.
Master Naturalist Trail Clean-Up – Dec. 18: Help us remove invasive, aggressive plants to support native species and keep our natural spaces thriving on Thursday, December 18 from 8 – 10 a.m. at Steeplechase Park. All skill levels are welcome but please bring your own tools, gloves, boots and eye protection.
Master Naturalist Led Bird Walk – Dec. 27: Spend your Saturday morning with the birds on Saturday, December 27 from 8 – 10 a.m. along the Bunton Wildflower Loop, 401 Shiro Dr. Participants will learn how to identify local and migrating bird species (such as sparrows, meadowlarks, and kestrels), and enjoy the beauty of nature at a relaxed pace.
