Kyle’s $3.14 Uber Program Turns 5, City Launches Review for the Future

The Uber $3.14 rideshare program is turning five this October, and with rapid growth from under 4,000 trips in 2021 to nearly 60,000 in 2024, the City is launching a comprehensive review to plan for its future.

The City of Kyle’s Uber $3.14 program is approaching a big birthday. This October, the visionary program is turning 5-years-old, and with age comes the need to evaluate what works and what could be better, which is why we’re conducting a study on the program as part of the 2026 Kyle Mobility Plan, a community-driven update to our Transportation Master Plan.

As we push this effort forward, we’re asking for feedback and input on the current rideshare program to identify near and long-term recommendations on what kind of program Kyle residents would like to see for the next five years and beyond through an ongoing study and survey at CityofKyle.com/MobilityPlan

We’re doing this because like everything in Kyle, the Uber Kyle $3.14 program is rapidly growing. In 2021, the program logged just under 4,000 trips. In 2024 that number rose to 60,000, an overwhelming success that comes with new challenges.

As demand increases, so does the price. In Fiscal year 2024-25 $450,000 was budgeted for the program. As of July 1, 2025 total expenditures have reached approximately $638,710 with an expected projection of $850,000 by October 2025.

Some changes are already underway. Beginning September 1, the cost of the share for the Uber Kyle airport vouchers will change to a 50-50 split between the rider and city. Meaning riders will pay 50% of the cost for rides to and from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport with the City covering the remaining 50%, up to $50 per trip. A change from 31.4% for the rider and 68.6% for the city.

This change, approved by City Council on August 5 (initial discussion at July 15 meeting), will improve budget oversight while maintaining current service levels and support future program growth.

We are committed to supporting efforts that ensure affordable, reliable transportation for residents who need it. By participating in the survey, you can help keep this program moving forward and guide how rideshare services best serve our community in the future.

In addition to the online survey, city staff and project consultants would love to chat in person. Tell us about what works for you, what doesn’t, what could be improved and all other feedback at the three city-hosted events listed:
