On Friday, December 19, Family Fun Friday gets a little brighter at Mary Kyle Hartson Park.
As part of Kyle’s 25 Days of Christmas celebration, the City of Kyle will debut new, permanent LED lighting on the Kyle Water Tower, one of the most recognizable features of the city’s skyline. The community is invited to gather near the Kyle Christmas Tree for music and a festive countdown at 6:30 p.m.
“This tower means a lot to Kyle,” said Chris Escoto, Deputy Director of Parks and Recreation. “We’re excited to give it the spotlight it deserves. And what better time than the holidays to see it come to life?”
Standing tall since the early 1900s, the Kyle Water Tower has watched over the city for generations. It has seen new neighborhoods take root, parades roll down Center Street, and families grow up beneath its red, white, and blue frame. For many, it’s the first thing they spot when driving back into town—a quiet sign that they’re home.
Now, thanks to newly installed dark-sky friendly LED lights, the tower will be visible in a whole new way. The lights can change colors for holidays and special events, adding a touch of celebration to the night sky year-round.
The lighting ceremony also marks the final Family Fun Friday of the season and the last chance to visit with Santa among the holiday lights in the park. Guests can enjoy family activities, vendors, and a festive evening together.
Installation wrapped up earlier this month, and the lights will glow every night going forward. It’s the first time the tower has received dedicated, permanent lighting.
Friday’s celebration marks a new chapter for a familiar landmark. As Kyle grows, the water tower remains a steady symbol of the city’s past and present, and a beacon for its future.
