While it may not feel like it just yet, Fall is in the air. The leaves are thinking about changing, weekends are synonymous with football, and yard signs are popping up at nearly every intersection. That can only mean one thing, it’s Election Season in Kyle!

This Election Day, your ballot is going to look a little bit different. That’s because this November, Kyle voters will see more than the usual City Council races on the ballot. In addition to the regular District 1 and District 3 seats, voters will also decide two special elections—for District 2 and for Mayor of Kyle—along with 17 proposed amendments to the City Charter.

Before we get into those City Charter Amendments, let’s take a look at the Mayoral and City Council seats.

All members of Kyle City Council, including the mayor, serve three-year terms. This year, District 1 and District 3 are on the ballot. District 2 City Council and City of Kyle Mayor are on the ballot due to current sitting members vacating their seat.

According to the City Charter, the resignations trigger the need for a Special Election. The winners of the District 2 City Council and Mayoral election will serve the remaining year of the term, with the seat up again in November 2026.

Now that we’ve got that cleared up, you may be asking yourself; what is a Charter Amendment? What is the City Charter and why are we changing it?

The City Charter is Kyle’s foundational legal document that outlines the city’s governmental structure, the powers and responsibilities of officials, and how the city is run. Think of it as a rulebook for how Kyle operates. Every 5-10 years, a Charter Review Commission, appointed by City Council, reviews the Charter to ensure it aligns with current laws, fixes inconsistencies, and reflects community values.

Between January and July 2025, the Commission carefully reviewed the City Charter and put forward over two dozen amendments for consideration. After careful review by Kyle City Council, voters will consider 17 proposed amendments this fall. These amendments address a wide variety of topics, including:

  • Council Member attendance policies
  • Expense reimbursement procedures
  • Election procedures and ballot language
  • Precinct and polling location updates
