Kyle Seeks Public Input on Proposed Sidewalk Improvements

The City’s draft CDBG plan would direct an anticipated $294,137 in federal funding toward sidewalk and accessibility improvements in eligible areas of Kyle.
A concrete sidewalk ends abruptly at tall, overgrown grass and wildflowers, blocking the path. A road and a water tower are visible in the background.

The City of Kyle is asking residents to weigh in on how it plans to use its next round of Community Development Block Grant funding.

Under the draft Program Year 2026 Annual Action Plan, the City would use an anticipated $294,137 in federal funds for sidewalk and accessibility improvements in qualifying neighborhoods.

Written comments will be accepted through Monday, July 20. Residents may also provide feedback during a public hearing at the Tuesday, July 21, Kyle City Council meeting.

What is CDBG?

The Community Development Block Grant Program, commonly called CDBG, provides federal funding for projects that primarily benefit residents with low to moderate incomes.

Kyle joined the CDBG Entitlement Program in 2023. Each year, the City prepares an Annual Action Plan explaining how it proposes to use that year’s funding.

The current draft covers Oct. 1, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2027.

What is proposed?

The draft plan proposes using the City’s anticipated 2026 allocation to address sidewalk and accessibility needs in eligible areas.

Potential work could include filling sidewalk gaps, repairing sidewalks in poor condition and adding ADA-compliant ramps and connections.

Specific project locations have not been selected.

Improvements must meet federal eligibility requirements, and the amount of work completed will depend on available funding, construction costs and site conditions.

Sidewalks were identified as one of the community’s highest priorities during development of Kyle’s five-year CDBG plan.
