Kyle Receives $480K Federal Grant to Improve Road Safety

The award, funded through USDOT’s Safe Streets and Roads for All program, will support project Vision Zero Kyle.

The City of Kyle has been awarded a $480,000 federal grant to support long-term planning efforts focused on improving roadway safety throughout the community. The award marks an exciting step forward as Kyle continues investing in a safer, more connected future.

The funding comes from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets for All program. Kyle’s project, Vision Zero Kyle: Toward Safer Streets, was selected as part of the program’s fiscal year 2025 awards and was publicly announced on December 23, 2025.

“This is a meaningful win for Kyle,” said Mike Trimble, Director of Transportation and Public Works. “This funding enhances planning already underway and allows the city to make smart, efficient use of resources, continuing to focus on safer, more connected streets for residents.”

The grant will be used to update the Hays County Roadway Safety Action Plan with a stronger focus on streets within the City of Kyle, especially areas with a history of severe injuries or fatalities. Planned efforts include safety audits at seven intersections, road safety reviews along two key corridors, and evaluations of potential quick-build projects. These are rapid, cost-effective safety measures that can be tested before permanent improvements are made. The project also includes the development of a dashboard to help prioritize safety projects and track progress over time.

The total cost of the project is estimated at $600,000, with the city providing the required 20 percent local match.

Before work begins, the city will finalize a grant agreement with federal partners. Planning efforts are tentatively expected to begin in 2026 once that process is complete.

As Kyle continues to grow and welcome new neighbors, this grant will help the city move forward with care and intention, keeping safety at the center of how streets are planned and improved.

More information and updates will be shared as the project moves forward.
