Eight officers with the Kyle Police Department were recognized at the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Awards Ceremony on June 30 for their outstanding efforts to keep impaired drivers off the road and protect the Kyle community.
Founded in 1980, Mothers Against Drunk Driving is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending impaired driving, supporting victims of impaired driving crashes and preventing underage drinking. Each year, MADD recognizes law enforcement officers across Texas who demonstrate exceptional commitment to removing impaired drivers from the road and improving traffic safety.
One Kyle Police officer received the Enforcement Hero Award for using innovative investigation strategies to identify and remove illegal drugs and intoxicated drivers from the streets. In addition, an entire night shift was honored with the Outstanding Service Award for its proactive work locating and apprehending impaired drivers before they could endanger others.
“These awards are a reflection of the dedication our officers bring to protecting Kyle every day,” said City of Kyle Chief of Police Dr. Jeff Barnett. “Every impaired driver removed from the road represents the potential to prevent a tragedy. I’m proud of these officers for their commitment to proactive enforcement and for the difference they’re making in keeping our roads safe.”
The recognition reflects the Kyle Police Department’s ongoing commitment to traffic safety and proactive enforcement. So far this year, Kyle Police officers have made 258 driving while intoxicated (DWI) arrests, averaging more than one arrest each day. Most of these arrests have occurred overnight on weekends along the I-35 corridor, where officers remain especially vigilant during peak hours for impaired driving.
The award-winning night shift alone was responsible for 91 of those arrests, accounting for approximately 35% of the department’s total DWI arrests this year.
