Kyle Enhances Emergency Response for Senior and Disabled Residents

Kyle’s Emergency Management Division has launched the Knox-Box Rapid Entry System, a voluntary program designed to improve emergency response for senior citizens and individuals with disabilities.

Kyle’s Emergency Management Division is excited to announce the launch of the Knox-Box Rapid Entry System, a voluntary program aimed at providing enhanced safety and emergency response for senior citizens and disabled residents of Kyle.

The Knox-Box system will be available to all qualifying residents who meet the program’s requirements. This elective system will streamline emergency response by enabling first responders to access homes more efficiently.

Once registered in the program, residents will be provided with a secure lockbox that stores a spare key to their home. In the event of a life-threatening emergency, 911 operators will immediately alert first responders if the resident is enrolled in the program and will provide the location of the lockbox. This will allow swift and safe access to the home.

“We are committed to providing the highest level of service to all members of our community, especially our seniors and individuals with disabilities,” said Kyle’s Emergency Management Coordinator, Jimmy Johnson. “The Knox-Box system is just one way we are working to ensure our most vulnerable residents receive the assistance they need in an emergency.”

To be eligible, Kyle residents must be 65 or older and live alone or be individuals under the age of 65 with major medical conditions that could render them incapacitated and live alone. More information on program requirements and how to apply is available on the City of Kyle’s website: https://www.cityofkyle.com/police/page/kyle-lockbox-program.
