Kyle Celebrates First Public Art Installation with ‘Sky Blooms’ Unveiling

Kyle is in bloom as the City celebrates our new flower sculpture brightening up Steeplechase Park.
A group of people smile and hold a ribbon at an outdoor ribbon-cutting event near colorful flower sculptures and “Parks and Recreation” banners. Trees and a path are visible in the background.

Community advocates, art lovers, families, and city leaders gathered together Saturday, February 14 for the unveiling of Kyle’s first public art installation, Sky Blooms.

The installation, located at Steeplechase Park, marks a milestone in Kyle’s ongoing commitment to arts, culture and community spaces.

“This moment represents an intentional effort, one made possible through the dedication and vision of our Arts and Cultural Board, and City Council,” said David Lopez, Director of Parks and Recreation. “We are grateful to everyone who played a role in bringing Sky Blooms to life and look forward to continuing this journey of enhancing and beautifying our parks.”

Sky Blooms, created by artist Jessica Bell, is a series of vibrant mixed-media flowers standing 8-10 feet tall, designed to cast playful patterns of light and color onto the ground below. At night, a series of LED lights dances between the blooms, providing a fun, colorful mix of blues, purples, pinks, greens, and reds.

This art installation is the first step in a broader public art strategy. In addition to stand-alone pieces like Sky Blooms, future projects envisioned in the proposed Public Art Master Plan could integrate art into trailheads, shade structures, seating areas, play features, and wayfinding signage to enhance the functionality and visitor experience across our park system.

Attendees enjoyed a build-your-own bouquet station as part of an interactive flower bar experience hosted by Jo. An Floral Design and a mini painting session provided by Eccentric Creature.

Thank you to our sponsors Art + Artisans, Refuerzo Collaborative, Mural Supply Co., and The Mosaic Workshop.

Along with Lopez and Bell, City of Kyle Mayor Yvonne Flores-Cale and Arts and Cultural Board President Melissa Spence gave remarks at the ribbon cutting.

Sky Blooms can be seen any time of day at Steeplechase Park, 295 Hallie Drive, right next to the brand new playground.
