Kyle Breaks Ground on Inclusive All-Wheels Skatepark

Kyle is officially moving forward with its new All-Wheels Skatepark, an inclusive space designed for riders of all abilities at Gregg-Clarke Park.

Kyle is getting a skatepark, and it’s not just any skatepark. It’s an All-Wheels Skatepark, designed for skateboarders, scooter riders, rollerbladers, BMX and MTB riders, and wheelchair users. It’s a space for everyone, regardless of age or ability.

Located at Gregg-Clarke Park, 1231 W. Center St., the new skatepark will be one of the largest in the region, spanning 31,000 square feet. The design includes a 9,500-square-foot multilevel street plaza featuring a 5-step stair set, pyramid, and accessible manual pad. There’s also an organic-shaped amoeba pool-style bowl, an accessible mini ramp flow bowl, and two pump tracks — one with a 300-foot jump lane and another with 380 feet of hairpin turns. To top it off, the park will include three shade structures, an essential feature under the Texas sun.

The All-Wheels Skatepark represents Kyle’s ongoing commitment to creating inclusive, active spaces that serve our growing community while also attracting neighbors to visit and enjoy – a vision outlined in the recently passed Parks Recreation and Open Space (PROS) Master Plan.

“Gregg-Clarke Park has been a cornerstone of Kyle for decades, and this project is the next chapter in its story,” said Parks and Recreation Director David Lopez. “We’re building something that not only serves today’s residents but will inspire and activate the next generation of athletes, families, and neighbors.”

A groundbreaking ceremony took place on Friday, Oct. 24 to celebrate the start of construction on the skatepark. The project is expected to be completed in late Summer 2026, marking a major step forward in expanding recreational opportunities and fostering active lifestyles in Kyle.

If you’ve been following along with the development of the skatepark, you may be wondering why the city is just now breaking ground. The road to this moment has been one of planning, collaboration, and persistence.

In November 2020, Kyle residents voted to approve a general obligation parks bond which included $1 million to help improve Gregg-Clarke Park. The City Council later approved an interlocal agreement with Hays County which included a match of an additional $1 million for Gregg-Clarke Park improvements. In February 2023, the City Council approved a contract with SPA Skateparks, who conducted public engagement from May 2023 to March 2024 to create and finalize the design of the park.

The project was paused in April 2024 to allow new leadership to reassess priorities and ensure alignment with the city’s long-term vision. A new construction contract with SPA was approved in September 2024. The total estimated cost of the project is $3.4 million, with $3.1 million allocated for construction and $325,500 for design fees.

As the skatepark takes shape, the City of Kyle’s Parks and Recreation Department is also looking ahead to broader improvements for Gregg-Clarke Park, one of the city’s oldest and most beloved recreation areas. The department is currently working with a design firm to reimagine the park’s future, with plans that could include:

  • Upgrading the splash pad and swimming pool
  • Creating conservation areas to preserve natural beauty
  • Redesigning ballfields to support more regulation-level play
  • Adding a new playground
  • Improving circulation andaccessibility throughout the park

From the all-wheels skatepark to future improvements still to come, the City of Kyle is building a park that reflects the heart of the community — rooted in collaboration, inclusivity, and a shared vision for a space that welcomes everyone.
