You may not see it, but emergency preparedness is happening across Kyle every day. From monitoring severe weather to coordinating with public safety partners, Emergency Management Coordinator Jimmy Johnson helps make sure the City is ready to respond when the unexpected happens.
Johnson coordinates planning, training and resources across City departments and public safety partners to prepare for emergencies and minimize their impact on the Kyle community. The City’s Emergency Operations Center brings those resources together during a crisis, while real-time weather monitoring at the Public Safety Center helps officials track severe weather and provide residents with timely information.
“I think a resilient community is a community that’s prepared,” Johnson said.
That preparedness also starts at home. Johnson encourages residents to have a go bag ready with essentials such as food, water, medications, important documents and other necessities that can be quickly grabbed during an emergency.
For Johnson, much of the job is designed to go unnoticed. Whether preparing for severe weather, coordinating an emergency response or helping keep a City event safe, the goal is simple: “If you come to an event, have a good time and things are safe, we’ve executed our job.”
