When a new book, movie, or digital resource arrives at the Kyle Public Library, there’s a good chance Emerson helped make it available to the community. As Technical Manager of Library Services, Emerson works behind the scenes to ensure library materials are organized, easy to find, and ready for patrons to enjoy.
“My job is to help ensure structured and efficient access to the library’s collection for the community,” Emerson said.
Emerson manages acquisitions, cataloging, digital resources, and interlibrary loan services, helping maintain a collection of approximately 50,000 items ranging from books and DVDs to e-books, audiobooks, and Library of Things materials.
One of the most important parts of the role is helping connect residents with the materials they want. Anyone with a Kyle Public Library card can request items for the collection by speaking with staff at the front desk, calling the library, or using the request feature in the library’s online catalog. Emerson reviews those requests and works with library leadership to help determine which materials are added to the collection.
Emerson says one of the most rewarding parts of the job is seeing newly added items make their way into the hands of patrons.
“It’s about helping create a space that’s welcoming, accessible, and meaningful for those in our community,” Emerson said.
From processing new arrivals to helping residents discover their next favorite book, Emerson plays an important role in ensuring the Kyle Public Library continues to meet the needs and interests of the community.
