Hide Your Gifts, Lock Your Door—Or I’ll Swipe Them and Come Back for More!

He’s making a list… He’s checking it twice… He might swipe all your toys tonight! Kyle Police warn of potential Grinch activity after poorly written note discovered.
A person dressed as the Grinch in a furry green costume stands indoors with hands on their face; the background features blurry, festive Christmas lights and decorated trees.

The Kyle Police Department says a handwritten letter turned up this week after several porch theft reports around town. The note arrived in a crumpled green envelope signed by the Grinch. “We share it here to bring awareness to just how dangerous the Grinch can be, and to add a little humor to the season,” said Assistant Chief of Police, Pedro Hernandez.

L:etter from the Grinch

Hello, dear Kylites, it is me once again,
Your green holiday guest who is nobody’s friend.
I wander your streets with a grin wide and bright,
Because you make mischief so easy each night.

Leave doors unlocked for a minute or two.
I promise that minute is perfect for me and not great for you.

Set presents in windows where bright lights can gleam.
A new shiny gadget is truly my dream.

Tell all your travel plans straight to the crowd.
Post it online. Say it out loud.

Leave cars for a moment with engines still on.
I will hop in with joy before you know I am gone.

Toss those big boxes right out by the street.
They tell me exactly which treasures to meet.

Oh Kyle, sweet Kyle, you help me each year.
Your tricks are my treats. Your mistakes bring me cheer.

Signed with a sneer and a satisfied smile,
The Grinch (after drinking eggnog for a while)

P.S. Currently avoiding arrest. Do not follow.

While the rhyme may bring a laugh, the reminders are real which is why it’s important for everyone in Kyle to take a few simple precautions to ensure a safe and merry holiday season.

Shopping Tips

Be aware of your surroundings while holiday shopping, especially in parking lots. Avoid texting while walking, park in well-lit areas, and lock your vehicle. Keep bags, gifts, and valuables out of sight.

For online shoppers, tracking packages and bringing them inside quickly can help reduce porch theft. Residents who expect frequent deliveries may consider using a delivery box or asking a neighbor to pick up packages.

Safe Driving

More gatherings and celebrations bring heavier traffic and a higher risk of impaired driving. The Kyle Police Department will have additional patrols on the roads throughout the season, but responsible driving decisions start with each of us before we ever get behind the wheel.

“Drinking and getting behind the wheel puts every family’s holiday at risk,” said Kyle Police Chief Dr. Jeff Barnett. “By planning ahead and choosing a responsible ride home, we can ensure a safer holiday season for all.”

Officers encourage residents to plan ahead with a designated driver, Kyle Uber $3.14, or other rideshare service.

Travel and Home Security

For those traveling out of town, police recommend making your home look occupied. Use timers on indoor lights, pause mail or package deliveries, and ask a trusted neighbor to check in. Avoid posting real time travel plans on social media.

Residents should also make sure to lock all doors, windows, and garages. Removing outdoor spare keys and installing motion lights or security cameras can provide added peace of mind.

A Community Effort

The Kyle Police Department encourages everyone to look out for one another this holiday season. While the Grinch may make an appearance to remind us of the do’s and don’ts, the heart of the message is simple: a safe and joyful season depends on neighbors caring for neighbors. By staying aware, sharing reminders, and supporting one another, our community can help ensure every family enjoys peace and safety this holiday.
