Care about animals in your community? Have suggestions on how we can better support animal welfare in east Hays County?
Join us Thursday, May 7 at the Animal Care Center Open House from 5-7 p.m. at the Public Safety Center, 1700 Kohlers Crossing. Community members in the service area pictured are encouraged to drop by at any time and share ideas on the programs and services they believe should be prioritized at this come-and-go style event.

City staff are especially interested in hearing feedback from residents who live outside Kyle but would potentially use the facility as the service extends to Buda and several other portions of Hays County.
“This is not just a Kyle conversation,” said Briana Geddes, Animal Control Division for the City of Kyle. “We’re inviting everyone in the proposed service area to come out and tell us what they would like to see in a future animal care facility.”
Programs currently being explored include foster opportunities, animal enrichment initiatives, volunteer programs, intake diversion options, low-cost spay and neuter services, and access to affordable vaccines to name a few.
“This project is still in the planning stages, and that makes public feedback especially important,” Geddes added. “We want to make sure the Animal Care Center reflects the needs and values of the entire community it will serve.”
This open house is an important step in planning for long-term animal care needs in our community as the San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter prepares to transition away from serving as the open-intake shelter for Hays County.
