What was once a gap in Kyle’s Road network is now a fully connected corridor, thanks to the recently completed Marketplace Avenue Extension Project—the first major milestone under the 2022 Kyle Road Bond.
Stretching from Old Bridge Trail to Kohlers Crossing, the newly completed 0.6-mile segment not only connects the northern and southern ends of Marketplace Avenue but also expands the road from three to four lanes between FM 1626 and Old Bridge Trail. The result is a smoother, safer, and more efficient route through one of Kyle’s busiest and fastest-growing areas.
The community came together to mark the occasion with a ribbon cutting ceremony and block party that turned the new stretch of road into an exciting celebration for the evening. Families walked, biked, and even chalked down the brand-new pavement, getting a first-hand look at the road before it opened to traffic. It was a moment of celebration and also a sign of what’s to come.
“This project is more than an infrastructure upgrade – it’s about restoring connections and supporting the way Kyle is growing,” said Mike Trimble, Director of Transportation and Public Works. “We’re building a network that makes it easier to get around, today and tomorrow.”
Marketplace Avenue is the first of eight projects funded through Proposition A, the $294 million bond approved by voters in 2022. Together, these projects will deliver over 10 miles of roadway improvements designed to:
- Reduce congestion
- Improve east-west mobility
- Fill gaps in the city’s Vybe trail system
For residents, the benefits are already taking shape: shorter commutes, better access to schools and shopping, and a roadway system built to meet the demands of a growing city.
With Marketplace Avenue now fully open, Kyle has taken a major step forward, not just in terms of transportation, but in demonstrating what thoughtful planning and community support can achieve.
