The City of Kyle, in partnership with AMVETS Post 115, VFW Post 12058, the Ladies Auxiliary Post 115, the Kyle Police Department, and the Kyle Fire Department, hosted its annual 9/11 Observance Ceremony on Sept. 11, 2026, at Heroes Memorial Park.

Held in solemn remembrance of the lives lost 25 years ago today, the ceremony served as an opportunity to reflect on the resilience and unity that came from one of our nation’s darkest days.

Mayor Yvonne Flores-Cale led the ceremony, offering opening and closing remarks. AMVETS Post 115 Chaplain Sheila Green provided the opening invocation and Chaplain Eva Maria Garza-McAdams of the Ladies Auxiliary Post 115 gave the closing invocation, while Jacquelyn Green performed the National Anthem and “God Bless America.”

Guest speakers included Kyle Police Department Assistant Chief Pedro Hernandez, Kyle Fire Department Fire Marshal Mark Schultz, AMVETS Post 115 Colonel Jeff Adiling, and VFW Post 12058 Commander Benny Courtney. Barbara Colarusso, 1st Vice President of the Ladies Auxiliary Post 115, read a timeline recounting the events of Sept. 11, 2001.

The ceremony also featured several traditional tributes, including a ceremonial wreath laying, the playing of Taps, a rifle volley salute, and a flag-lowering ceremony. These honors were conducted with the assistance of the Lehman NJROTC SeaLobos, AMVETS Post 115, and VFW Post 12058.

We thank everyone who joined us in remembering the lives lost, honoring the heroes who responded, and reflecting on the resilience and unity that emerged from one of our nation’s most significant moments.
