Chevo Pastrano Senior Parkway Dedicated with Community Celebration

The City of Kyle officially renamed South Goforth Road to Chevo Pastrano Senior Parkway on September 5, honoring the city’s longest-serving council member for his 16 years of leadership and community impact.

Friends, family, and longtime residents gathered together September 5 to celebrate the official renaming of South Goforth Road to Chevo Pastrano Senior Parkway, in honor of the lasting contributions of the former Kyle council member.

The evening ceremony took place on Logistics Drive, where city officials, community members, and members of the Pastrano family recognized Chevo Pastrano Sr. for his service to Kyle. He served on City Council for 16 years, from 1985 to 2001, including two terms as Mayor Pro Tem.

During his time on council, Pastrano supported the adoption of the city’s first sign ordinance, helped repurpose the former post office into city offices, and approved neighborhoods such as Spring Branch, Plum Creek, Prairie on the Creek, and Southlake. He also helped establish the Kyle Historic District Committee.

During the ceremony, Mayor Travis Mitchell reflected on Pastrano’s long record of service and spoke about the road’s future role as a key connector, “Only one rises to the level of the longest-serving city council member in Kyle history. I can think of no better way to honor that legacy than by naming one of our most prominent streets after Chevo Pastrano Sr.”

So, why the change? Originally, South Goforth Road was designed to connect with the existing Goforth Road, but as development in the region evolved, so did the alignment, leading our Planning and Development Department to determine it to be a good candidate for renaming to help avoid confusion with existing addresses on Goforth Road and to mitigate potential emergency response issues in the future. To address this, the City of Kyle launched a public naming process earlier this year. Residents submitted name ideas, and a community poll followed. Of 468 votes, 60 percent supported naming the road after Pastrano.

The roadway, which currently has no addresses, will eventually extend from Yarrington Road to FM 150 through the CityPoint Kyle development.

His son, Chevo Pastrano Jr., shared family memories during the event, describing how his father, the son of farm workers, moved the family to Kyle in 1980 and quickly became involved in civic life. “What he was doing was forming this community around his family,” he said. “Now I get to see the product of that work—and the sacrifices he made—in a group that comes out to celebrate something like this for him.”

With the new signage now in place, the name Chevo Pastrano Senior Parkway will serve as a visible reminder of decades of public service and local leadership.
