Changes Coming to Uber Kyle Program

What you need to know about Uber Kyle program updates taking effect July 1, 2026.

Starting Wednesday, July 1, residents who utilize the City of Kyle’s Uber program are going to notice several changes to the service.

Since launching in October 2020, the Uber Kyle program has experienced remarkable growth with minimal City advertising, expanding from just over $21,000 in expenditures in Fiscal Year (FY) 2020/21 to an estimated $1.02 million in FY 2025/26.

In order to continue to provide affordable transportation options for residents, we are implementing the following modifications designed to reduce costs while maintaining core services:

  • The rider co-pay will increase from $3.14 to $5 per trip. The City will continue to cover up to $10 per ride. Riders are responsible for any remaining balance over $15.
  • Austin-Bergstrom International Airport vouchers will be discontinued.
  • Updated service area limited to pick-up and drop-off destinations within Kyle city limits.
  • Service hours reduced from 24/7 to daily from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. Service is not available between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m.

What’s not changing:

  • Austin Veterans Administration vouchers remain available at $3.14 per trip, with two discounted one-way trips per month.
  • Wheelchair accessible trips through MT Connect remain available at $3.14 per trip.
  • The number of monthly vouchers (10 rides) will remain the same for eligible local trips.

These adjustments come as the City works to address an ongoing budget shortfall while managing the significant increase in program costs and usage over the past five years.

The Uber Kyle program was discussed in depth at the June 27 Special City Council meeting. To watch the meeting and see the agenda visit Events.CityofKyle.gov/Meetings. All meetings are also available on our YouTube page, YouTube.com/c/CityofKyleTx.
