Hispanic Heritage Month runs from September 15 to October 15, and the City of Kyle is excited to host events that honor the rich history, culture, and contributions of Hispanic Americans. Mark your calendars and join us for a month filled with music, dance, food, fitness, and community.
September Market Days – Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration
Kick off the celebration at the September Market Days – Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration on Saturday, September 13 from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Mary Kyle Hartson Park, 101 S. Burleson St.
Browse local vendors offering food, drinks, handmade goods, and farm-to-market items. While you shop, enjoy a vibrant atmosphere with performances throughout the morning, including a DJ set from 8:30-9 a.m., traditional folklórico dancing from Grupo Folklórico Ocotochtli from 9:30-10 a.m., and a mariachi performance by Mariachi Aguilas de Oro from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Family and Fruta Fun Run 5k
Bring the whole family out for a morning of fitness, culture, and community spirit! The City of Kyle Parks and Recreation Department, in partnership with Strength and Endurance Academy, is hosting the Family & Fruta Fun Run 5k on Saturday, September 27 at 8 a.m. at Waterleaf Park, 628 Abundance Lane.
Runners, walkers, and families with strollers are all welcome to hit the trails together for this free community run. Attendees can tackle the full 5k course, take a shorter loop, or double it up for a full 10k. There’s no pressure, just fun!
After the run, participants can enjoy a festive atmosphere with local vendors offering fruit, food, and more. Also, be sure to bring your tangy, sweet or tart side for the Fruta de la Moda Costume Contest, sponsored by Edna’s Cleaning Service. Individual winners can take home $100 or get the whole gang together to win $200 for best group costume.
The fun kicks off at 8 a.m. with brief remarks at 8:30 a.m., an optional warmup at 8:45 a.m., and staggered race waves starting at 9 a.m.
Registration is not required to participate but be sure to arrive early as the first 100 participants will receive a free Family & Fruta Fun Run t-shirt to remember the day.
Dialogue for Peace and Progress 2025 – Celebrating Hispanic Heritage
For those looking for a more reflective way to honor Hispanic Heritage Month, join us for the Hispanic Heritage Month Dialogue for Peace and Progress at the Kyle Public Library on Saturday, October 4 from 10-11 a.m. This event series works to join community members and leaders for open and honest conversations to raise awareness and, if necessary, facilitate change in the City of Kyle.
This month’s Dialogue will be moderated by Dr. Gloria Velasquez. Dr. Velásquez, originally from Michoacán, México, came to the United States at the age of 12. After teaching herself to read and write in Spanish and English, she went on to earn multiple degrees, including a doctorate in Adult, Professional, and Community Education in 2024. She has taught Spanish at Texas State University since 2002 and is also the advisor for Grupo Folklórico Ocotochtli.
The City of Kyle is currently recruiting panelists from a multitude of perspectives, backgrounds and generations to participate in this event. If you are interested in being a panelist for the dialogue, please fill out the webform by 5 p.m. Friday, September 26.
Fiesta de las Flores at Kyle Public Library
Round out the month-long celebration with Fiesta de las Flores on Saturday, Oct. 4 at the Kyle Public Library, 550 Scott St. Enjoy performances from the Wallace Middle School Mariachi band at 1 p.m., poetry by Dr. Gloria Velásquez at 1:30 p.m., and a Ballet Folklórico performance by Grupo Folklórico Ocotochtli at 1:30 p.m. With art, culture, and community all under one roof, this event captures the heart of Hispanic Heritage Month.
Those in attendance may also enjoy free food and drinks provided by Pollo Campero while supplies last.
