Big changes are coming to the Kyle Public Library — and trust us, it’s going to be worth the wait. To keep our space welcoming, comfortable, and ready for the community’s next chapter, the library will undergo a series of interior updates from late December through mid-January. These improvements will bring fresh color, new carpet, and an overall refreshed look to the building our community has grown to love since it opened in 2012.
Beginning December 29, the library will remain open while contractors paint the meeting rooms, lobby, and the back wall of the library. Completing these portions first allows the project to move forward without closing the building right away.
The library will close early on December 31 at 5 p.m. so staff can safely move workstations and computer equipment in preparation for the next phase of the project.
A full temporary closure of the library is anticipated from January 2–17, 2026, to allow for the more extensive phases of the renovation to be completed safely and efficiently. This includes painting the remaining interior walls and replacing carpet throughout the entire building.
In total, the closure will last 14 days, not counting Sundays and holidays when we’re already closed.
During this time, you may still return books to exterior drop boxes. Holds and Interlibrary Loans will not be available until the library reopens.
No public programs will be affected. Our New Year programming will begin after Martin Luther King Jr. Day as planned.
Curious what the library staff will be doing while the library is closed? During the closure, staff will participate in trainings focused on first aid, emergency response, active shooter response, bomb threats, and evacuation, as well as team-building activities to support high-quality public service when the library reopens.
Additionally, the Kyle Mobile Library will be stationed in the back parking lot of the building each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. while the library is closed. It will offer a rotating selection of materials to check out, along with continued access to library card services.

We know the temporary closure may be an inconvenience — especially for those who rely on the library for computer access, printing, faxing, and public restrooms. To help, we’ve compiled a list of locations that offer these services to Hays County residents:
