From plans to progress, 2026 is gearing up to be the year of construction in Kyle. This year will be a pivotal one for the 2022 Road Bond Projects, as the City of Kyle kicks off eight major roadway projects, adding 10.3 miles of new and improved roads.
As these projects get rolling, we’re committed to keeping you informed on where each project stands, what’s happening next, how these changes will affect you, and how they’ll improve traffic.
First up, let’s take a closer look at the projects currently under construction, the Kohlers Crossing extension and Bebee Road expansion.
Kohlers to Seton: A New Southeast Connection
An essential east-west connection began construction in late 2025. This project entails developing a new section of Kohlers Crossing that will run from the I-35 frontage road to Seton Parkway and eventually pass under I-35 to connect with Kohlers Crossing west of the highway. This extension includes a lighted four-lane road with pedestrian and ADA access.
The Kohlers Crossing extension was identified for construction because it fills a long-standing gap in the city’s road network. Connecting Kohlers Crossing across the highway and down to Seton Parkway gives drivers a direct route to important destinations like Ascension Seton Hays Hospital and nearby neighborhoods east of the interstate. It will also improve overall traffic flow, relieve congestion on FM 1626 and Kyle Parkway, and help emergency vehicles move quickly through town.
As the city continues to grow, this new road will also support nearby development, including the Kyle Park project by NewQuest, which recently began construction just south of the extension. While the road was designed and planned before this development arrived, it will help move traffic through the area as Kyle Park brings new jobs, dining, and shopping to the area.
Crews are currently working on the base of the road, building bridge supports near Seton Hospital, moving utility lines, and preparing a new right-turn lane from the I-35 frontage road.
Underpass Still in Design
A key part of this project—a future road going under I-35—is still in the design phase. Because it involves modifications to the interstate, this planning process takes time. Construction on the underpass is currently expected to begin in late 2027.
City engineers and planners are actively working with TxDOT to ensure the underpass design meets safety and traffic standards while aligning with Kyle’s long-term growth. As with all projects in the bond, city staff continue to evaluate progress and adjust plans as needed to serve residents as efficiently and safely as possible.
Bebee Road: Widening in Progress
The first phase of the Bebee Road expansion is underway. It will widen the roadway from two lanes to four along a one-mile stretch, with a center turn lane and sidewalks, between the I-35 frontage road and Sunlight Boulevard. This segment includes a sharp curve that will be softened to improve safety and visibility, along with a roundabout where Bebee will intersect with the Kohlers Crossing extension.
Construction is currently focused on this western section. Crews are installing drainage pipes, preparing the ground for paving, and adding underground wastewater lines. Most of this work is taking place off the existing roadway, with minimal traffic impact.
Later in this phase, crews will widen the lanes drivers are currently using. At that point, drivers can expect more noticeable traffic changes, including lane shifts, temporary closures, and detours.
The eastern portion of Bebee Road will follow in a future phase, which is now in final design. The 100% Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E) package was approved on January 9, 2026, preparing that segment for construction to begin in 2027. What This Means for You
Once finished, these new roads will make it faster and safer to reach schools, neighborhoods, shopping areas, and medical facilities. They’ll also improve east-west connections and help relieve traffic at Kyle’s current interstate overpasses.

Looking Ahead
The projects currently in progress are expected to be fully open by fall 2027, with the exception of the underpass work at I-35, which is anticipated to be complete in 2029. The next project from the 2022 Road Bond program to break ground will be the Windy Hill Road improvements, which is currently in the bidding phase.
City staff are committed to keeping residents informed and adapting project timelines as needed, with flexibility built into planning efforts to accommodate future growth and evolving transportation needs. As Kyle continues to grow, these improvements reflect careful planning and long-term investment in safer, more connected travel.
Drivers should expect temporary closures, detours, and delays in the area as work moves forward.
Detours and Traffic Changes Expected
As part of the widening of Bebee Road near I-35, temporary detours will be needed. To help keep traffic moving during that work, the City plans to pave and open a portion of the new Kohlers Crossing extension early. This segment, running between the I-35 frontage road and Bebee Road, would open before the full project is complete and be used as a temporary route while construction is underway on Bebee.

Attend the Community Open House
The City of Kyle invites all residents to a Community Open House on Wednesday, February 25, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Kyle Public Library, 550 Scott Street. This informal, come-and-go event will share updates on Road Bond projects and other mobility efforts supporting Kyle’s growth. Staff and engineers will be available to answer questions, hear feedback, and provide helpful information.
